MY SEALED POT WEEK (1)

All credit goes to Mr Sft who saved £20 for our pot from doing an IT job.

Me? I have lost the plot money wise this week.

School has been bonkers and I have had little time for anything else.

Normal service will be resumed soon and £20 is a great start to the challenge.

How did your first week go?

SFT

  1. I have stuffed quite a few coins into both tins early in the week. It has slowed down over the weekend. There were no little surprises or extras to pop into either pot. I am about to pu my Miss onto her plane for England.

  3. I think I've put about £8 in mine and I'm pleased with that as a start. Like this year I'm not going to keep a tally of what goes in and then I should have a nice surprise (as I did on Dec 1st) when they are opened.

  5. Excellent week overall - I am taking part in Sara's £2014 in 2014 challenge and have 'saved' nearly £40 this week. There was a mix-up with our electric supply and the site have accepted responsibility and said we do not have to pay for their mistake so £27 went into the savings account, a friend pay for a belated birthday meal so another £10 went into the account. I have put some 50ps into the '50p challenge' tin. I have found 25p this week and that has gone into the sealed pot along with the change from my shopping and a few 5ps which is the change from the drinks machine at hubby's work. Excellent start - just got to keep it up for another 51 weeks!!!!

  7. $5.80 into the pot from a clean out of the wallet. A nice start considering it is a couple weeks before Christmas. I'd rather it go in the pot for next year. :)

  8. I have decided to still chip away at last year's pot as i am saving up for the airfare for South Africa for November to do my padi course, i can only do my Africa trip if i have a couple of hundred in the pot, so i am plugging away at it!

Well done on the amount you managed to save, sounds like you did fabulous. I saw your pic of the wild dogs on one of your previous posts, we were fortunate enough to see them fast asleep at the side of the road completely oblivious to all these tourists around them!

Good luck on this year's sealed pot challenge.xx

  9. Hi SFT,

Our lovely pot had £180 in it. We spent £40 on coal, £80 went towards the house insurance and we still have the rest in coins so we will have a £60 start for us.
Can't wait to get going and smash it next year.

    1. That's a brilliant amount FIB! And you have spent it on very worthy purchases. Coal is so luxurious on the fire isn't it!

Sounds like 2014 is going to be a great year for you too.

  10. Awful here. Just the change from my purse. I think about £2. Went to the Harry Potter studio yesterday. OMG. I completely lost the plot. Seriously, I may as well have just handed over my bank card and said have at it and see what you can spend.

it was amazing. but my frugal pride took a pounding and stood in that gift shop and wanted everything. I am a big kid at heart. I am treating that day as a weeks holiday. (because that is how much we spent! eek)

  14. A very nice note to start your 2014 pot with SFT - clever Mr SFT! :)

I'm waiting until we complete our house move before we decorate and seal up our new sealed pots, so pennies are being saved in my purse at the moment. I haven't counted them up, but there's enough in there to jingle, so we've made a start!

Hope work calms down for you soon (preferably before the festive holiday season begins!) Sx

  20. Last year I decided to save up for a trip to visit friends in Holland in 2014, but after moving house I was so exhausted and in need of a break I went in August this year for 10 days.... and used the tin for spending money.
I decided to see how much I could replace before Xmas, but then my son moved in after he and his partner split, and then he got sanctioned and lost his Jobseekers allowance, so I had to use it to feed us.
All in all, not been a good year to try and save in. I'm going to try again in 2014, but as I'm feeding 3 adults on one jobseekers benefit (daughter) and one pension (mine) until April, I don't know how it will go. The aim is to go to Holland again in 2015, but I need to get some raised beds and grow veggies for next year too....so who knows?
Just trying to sell my sofa and breadmaker at present to raise some cash. Wish me luck and add me to the 2014 list please ! :)

I am so sorry it took a while to answer your comment.. So glad you got that well earned break in holiday and that the sealed pot money came in handy.

Sounds like you and your family have had a tough time lately.

Good luck with saving for this year and of course I'll add you to the new list.

  21. Hallo all, you know what, I think I will give it a bash too, if you will have me. I live in France (but work just across the border in Switzerland). For the last year I have been putting all my 5 Swiss franc pieces in a piggy bank. Took it to the bank today and I had 725 Swissies (about £550) so I was well please. I'm going to join a gym and see what I do with the rest (or maybe I will just leave it in the 2014 sealed pot challenge). I would like to save in 2014 towards a trip to Thailand (or maybe Cuba or Costa Rica) in 2015. I haven't decided yet but I think pushing myself to save towards it would be great. Anna

  22. Finally got to opening my sealed pot (been a crazy week with TWO icy weathers and a power outage).

My grand total was $267!! Not bad for pure pocket change! I'll blog after Christmas how it was spent.

Next round I'm going to be more proactive and put some of the items I declutter up on eBay or Craig's List instead of taking them to Good Will. Those earnings will go in the pot too.

  23. My boyfriend wants to put into the sealed pot this year and has even made a great suggestion by changing where we keep it (not in the top shelf in the kitchen but rather in the sitting room) so as we see it more often and will remind us to feed it :) I've been motivating myself reading other blogger's totals and am hopeful for a great result in 2014 :) Your Africa trip sounds amazing and I'm inspired to get a travel-goal list and budget sorted for next year.
