Hi Everyone!
Sorry SEALED POT SUNDAY is a bit late this week.
THIS WEEK'S GUEST SEALED POT IS from KRISCINDA
http://heavymetalhomesteading.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/money-monday/

If you pop over to Kriscinda's blog-she gives a step by step guide to how she made her beautiful pot. Some people are soooo clever!
MY SEALED POT WEEK
1. Change from our monthly shopping-£3.60.

2. £2.00 from chocolate abstinance.

3. Change from my purse-about £8.00

4. It's a raid-from Mr Sft.

What about you?
How has week 9 been for you?
Sft x

Firstly how are you? Are you over your bug? As we say here.
ReplyDeleteIt has been an expensive week. Back to school on Tuesday and lots of horrible flooding around us. Thankfully we were fine and only suffered a few inconveniences which when I compare our lot to the rest of the disaster around us is wonderful. I did my first real grocery shop since December and it was expensive but we do have to eat etc.
On to the pots. I have been diligently stuffing my coins and the odd five dollar note in my pots. I feel quite disappointed if there is nothing to add to a pot at the end of the day. Weighing the pots has a bonus as I will know if someone has been trying to raid the pots. So
The Queen Mary pot has been the recipient of $2 and $5. The pot has increased in weight by 50 g to 369 g.
The Sydney pot receives everything else and has gained 234g and now weighs in at 1.413 kg.
I am looking forward to reading everyones' saving adventures.
I got over that bug and now I've got another. So I've been shivering and sneezing this weekend.
DeleteSorry to hear about the the flooding. That sounds terrible. Glad you were effected too badly.
I think weighing your pots is a great idea, and will tell you if they've been raided or not.
You are doing so well.
How long now before you go on your QM trip?
Sft x
I leave in exactly four weeks. It doesn't seem real yet.
DeleteI am so sorry that you have gone from one bug to another.
I also forgot to add that I made my end of month bank transfer and now I am waiting anxiously for Thursday as I was probably a bit too disciplined.
The promised photo of my pot is late coming to you, because my desk top computer, the only one I can download photos on, is unplugged while all my reno's are taking place. Hopefully, and that is a big hopefully, (getting tired of painting and the upheaval), it can be forwarded to you soon.
ReplyDeleteMy sealed pot did receive some toonies and loonies this week.
Want to share, when my dd2 and hubby decided to adopt, they got a large milk can, cut a hole in the lid, then hammered it on so it could not be taken off manually. For a year or more they dropped every spare coin and paper money, they had in that can. When they opened it, they had over a $1,000.00, taking hours and hours to count and roll it all. They used it for spending money in China.
Keep well
Patricia
Will be looking for your sealed pot Patricia!
DeleteGood to hear it's been fed by some toonies and loonies this week.
That's an amazing story about your dd2 adopting! Thanks for sharing.
Sft x
Hi sft! Hope you're okay, I missed you this week :)
ReplyDelete£1.50 in my pot this week - just the change in my purse.
£1.50 is a good weekly amount.
DeleteIt's nice to be missed.
Sft x
Hope you're feeling better. You're doing so well with your chocolate abstinence, I can see your sealed pot is benefiting.
ReplyDeleteYes it is! Had some this week though :(
DeleteSft x
Hope you're feeling better this week! Great to hear you're still managing to keep away from the chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteMy sealed pot had a better week this week, as I got paid so didn't need to scrimp the small change! Emptied my purse - not sure how much; also had been saving £2 coins seperately to save for my passport renewal - had £14 too much so that went in the sealed pot; and got a statement from an old credit card showing I was £5.50 in credit! So that went in, plus £2 saved from using supermarket vouchers. So not a bad week! xx
Had a little this week I'm afraid.
DeleteYes, you've had a really successful week.
Sft x
I'm joining in for the first time. Got my pot all sealed up and ready to go yesterday and threw in the few coins that were languishing in an old oil burner that has been the receptacle for found coins until now. I added the change left in my purse at the end of January (3.74) as well a fiver (for it being the 5th week of the year). I am actually pretty excited about doing this. It's funny how something can just come along at the right time and catch you in the right mood, even if you've dismissed other similar things for a hundred and one reasons before.
ReplyDeleteHi Moonwaves,
DeleteI'll add you to the challengers list. It's great that folks are still joining.
I hope you do really well with the challenge and come and see us each Sunday!
Do let me know where you are from AND WHAT YOUR GOAL IS........
Sft x
Hi Sue,
DeleteI live in Germany. As for my goal, I can't quite decide. However, we'll be opening the pots the week of my birthday so for this first year anyway, I may just be selfish enough to use whatever comes out of my pot to buy myself something fabulous for my birthday. :) At the moment I'm just trying to concentrate on the journey rather than the destination, so to speak.
Thanks.
Nothing has gone in my pot this week but i have been saving some loose change in a different pot to buy myself a very nice pair of black jeans. I was going to top it up with some of my ebay funds which ended today. Luck was on my side coz on Friday i went charity shopping and found a brand new black pair of ICHI jeans for only £3. When i got home as you do i googled the brand and found out that i would never have afforded to buy them so i might put some of my ebay funds in the sealed pot and save the rest for a nice jacket. Your pot is doing well, hope you are a lot better.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you've had a very lucky week! Wow!
DeleteFeeling a bit better. Thank you.
Sft x
Kriscinda's pot is oh so pretty - might have a try at this. I will post about my pot this week. The parking money was saved £5.40 and, yes, the deal is on indefinitely so it's a long ter saving a parking place in exchange for a lift! This week I want to get packed lunches/dinners organised for myself as I often spend on meals at supermarkets to eat at work. The shampoo dispenser I bought for the bathroom has proved a saver already - half a bottle of shampoo saved in the first week! we usually get thru a bottle a week. I love being a money saver. Betty
ReplyDeleteYes Kriscinda's pot is lovely.
DeleteYou are doing so well with your money saving.
Are you putting all of the £5.40 into the pot?
Sft x
Its been a busy week here too. My sealed pot has been well fed this week, with the change from our sealed pot Sunday Lunch and 2 x £2 coins. The surplus from my housekeeping allowance for January has gone in the holiday fund instead.
ReplyDeleteKaren x
You've added nicely to your pot Karen.
DeleteGood to hear that you are saving for another magical holiday.
Sft x
Pretty Pot, mine is a Quality street tin, not even tin now but plastic, sealed up with gaffer tape. Most importantly it was FREE, the company gives us the sweets and I give them away, this year I emptied the contents into a glass dish and used cellophane and ribbon to make it into a smart present. I have not fed it today as I am in Wales visiting and spending quality time with the Grand children. I do have some £2 coins tucked away to add when I get home, and I will add the rest of the change also.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam,
DeleteA Quality Street is a big old pot! But I'm sure you can fill it.
Sft x
Hey...that's my pot!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been keeping track of what's been going into the pot, and I kinda like that, so the eventual opening will *really* be a surprise. =) That said, though, someone here suggested the 52-week cumulative savings plan...? I like that idea. I'm going to have speaks with hubby and see if we can do that. =)
YES IT'S YOUR POT!
DeleteDon't worry, most people aren't counting what's going into the pot!
Let me know if you take up the 52 week savings plan too.
Sft x
Hello, just popped in to say I have missed a few blogs I think but i will look back when I get a chance.I am still stuffing everything I can scrounge,I thought Suze weighing was a great idea, this time last year when we came back from holidays i put the left over money in this year i had a phone bill etc waiting boo hoo !!! so a bit behind I feel at this point but I will make it up I am sure.I hope you get better soon, make sure you look after yourself, who else is going to keep us all saving madly!
ReplyDeleteHi Carole,
DeleteGood to hear that you are saving well. Keep that momentum going!
Feeling on the mend now.
Sft x
The last week in January was very tight- but my sealed pot got its promised weekly €2 ;) Hope you're feeling better soon :(
ReplyDeleteGood to hear about those two euros!
DeleteFeeling on the mend thank you.
Sft x
I just put $5 into the pot. February we will have a lot more money coming in than the last two so hope to do better then. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi CC,
DeleteThat's a good amount for the pot. Your February sounds exciting!
Sft x
Hi SFT - just $5 for me this week as I haven't been out spending cash to get change. Still spending though, just the larger amounts like groceries & back to school stuff etc which I use my credit card for so I can earn rewards points - don't worry I pay it back straight away using my mobile app which I LOVE it's the best way to move money around to date......& I thought internet banking was awesome!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've been under the weather with another bug :-( Hope you are on the mend soon.
Sx
Hi Sandra,
DeleteAny small amount helps the pot!
This bug has been terrible but I'm finally getting over it.
Sft x
Hi Sft,
ReplyDeleteHope your get over this second cold quickly! Our school is full of colds for the kids and flu for the staff at the moment so we are sniffing and shivering here too.
Well done on the pot this week! And well done with the continued chocolate abstinance, I shall be giving it up once again for lent!
Our pot saw £5 from no karate again! It was a party this week though. A £2 coin some 20ps and around £6 from the leftover £30 for food from the week. And another tenner for the savings account pot :-)
We haven't yet made a new pot so are using a money box but none of us have any desire to raid it so it should be safe!! I will make a new one soon and put up some pics!
Have a good week xx
Hi Kay
DeleteI had the Norovirus and it was terrible.
You have had an excellent week-THAT'S A LOT OF CASH!
Good to hear you'll be making a new pot soon.
Sft x
The Seaked Pot ate $9 this week. It indicated it was still hungry but I just gave it the old "eat this and then maybe you can have some more". LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood wishes to you!
You've got to keep it well fed! It doesn't like being on a diet.
DeleteSft x
I recycled a pillow case, stuffing and yarn and made a mattress, pillow, pillow case and blanket for a doll cradle I bought on impulse for $2 last year. I sold everything to a friend this week for $30 and put the money in my sealed pot along with my change.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news Marjorie! Very enterprising.
DeleteSft x
Our pot is slowly but surely getting filled. Just added another $6 to it this week :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great news Lena!
DeleteSft x
Is it week 9 already? We started planning the hen party this week, which was exciting! My pot is still only being filled with loose change but is making a good weight.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't time fly? Hopefully those plans will motivate you to save even more!
DeleteSft x
Hope you are feeling better SFT,I managed to put in £3 from grocery budget,£2.50 change from purse not a great deal but every little bit helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks WP! You've had a great week.
DeleteSft x
Still adding my coins to the pot. Kriscinda's pot is lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that Bonsaimum!
DeleteSft x
I hope you're feeling a bit better by the time I write this. There are so many nasty bugs going around and I bet all your lovely little 'class mates' are making sure you get your fair share :-(
ReplyDeleteMy Sealed Pot got losts of little bits this week, but I'm not really keeping tabs, I want a surprise when I open it at the end of the year. I guess there will be nowhere near as much as we managed last year but that will be okay after a Housekeeping budget of £480 for the year any spare cash will be welcome at the start of December :-)
Hope you're soon feeling better.
Sue xx
Hi Sue,
DeleteStarting to feel a bit better now. I think I've had the Norovirus. Missed 3 days of school (which I haven't done for 13 years) and up to 7 of my class has been absent each day.
Good to hear you are feeding the pot. I don't want to keep tabs on my pot either as it will be worth the surprise in December.
Sft x
Finally got around to counting a small drawer of coppers from 2012. Surprising £14. Added £10 from selling my spare free range eggs and £4 in 20 pences. Total for January £28
ReplyDeleteHi Emma,
DeleteI'll add you to our challengers list, Do let me know where you are from and your sealed pot goal.
You've done brilliantly in January.
Sft x
Our pot's just had a slow trickle of money going in this last week, change from purses mainly... I found a £1 coin in bed the other day, which was nice!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better!
Kay :)
Hi Kay,
DeleteStarting to feel better now. Thanks.
Good to hear you've been feeding the pot. I love the £1 found in the bed!
Sft x
I'm late this week, too! But I gained a pound, so $2 into the pot; $7 left from shopping ($5 in change and $2 'cause I didn't buy the coffee I wanted - went home and made a nice cup instead). So a total of $9 goes in today! Hope you are all well again and back to walking. I have not walked for a week, then reverted to eating cookies with my coffee (store-bought cookies, which are the worst!!). Will try to do better this week.
ReplyDeleteNothing found this week, either, or raided (bought from Mum). Have a great week, everyone! ~ Linne
Hi Linne
DeleteNice to hear from you. Good saving from the shopping and coffee.
No, I've had a really poor start to the year, walking and health wise but I am slowly getting better.
Sft x
Hi SFT. Week has been very busy outdoors. The weather has so dry and sunny and I'm taking advantage of every little minute. Put another $10 in this week from saving on transport costs :). Hope everything is going well for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Matt,
DeleteGood to hear you've been busy outdoors! Lucky you, having all that lovely weather. Great news about saving from transport costs-nice food for the pot.
Sft x
I have been throwing in all of my $5's. Since I'm using cash now, if I get a $5 bill I automatically 'pretend' I can't spend it and it goes into the pot! I know I put in about $20.00 this week alone!
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
DeleteThose $5s must be adding up nicely. That'a s great idea.
I'll change my blogroll to your new address. Thanks
Sft x
P.S. I changed my blog address! It's now midlifemommusings.com. You'll have to change it in your blogroll so that it will update! :)!
ReplyDeleteI've posted this on behalf of Mary.

Hi I'm back from 'the end of the world' and will be catching up hopefully once settled! Looks like you've been ill from glimpses here, hope you are better soon. Couldn't blog whilst in Antarctica sadly - time and cost were terrible so only used it to keep in touch with Bob! Did hear via Brits on board the ship that the UK was getting bad weather, snow etc., hope it's brightened/warmed up by now.
YOU would love the spectacular places/animals/birds I saw - I hope so much you guys can go there some day. Perhaps a new pot just for that trip when you retire eh???? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you because I know you, of all couples, would appreciate such an exciting and awesome journey.
Love and hugs - Mary
Hi Mary
DeleteYes, I'm just getting over a nasty bug called the Norovirus. Sounds like you've had an amazing time in Antarctica. Yes, we've had nasty weather for a while. I am so looking forward to Spring.
Looking forward to reading about your travels now my energy levels have increased..
We do have some lovely thing planned for retirement but I couldn't go to the Antarctica because I feel the cold really badly. I am great in heat however so that's a good thing.
Take care

Hi SFT - it seems every one has gone a bit "potty" around here! I really enjoy reading/viewing about others sealed pot creations and how they used their money last year. It kinda gets me inspired...
ReplyDeleteI've been using a pot (but not a sealed one) that I add to when I can but then use when I need to. Don't want to make excuses (yes I do...) but due to an injury I had to go on a month long leave from work (back fulltime this Monday :) and thus my pay was reduced by 10% (short term disability) after I used up my 10 sick days. Woe is me.
But things are looking up again, thankfully, and I will think about whether I'll seal my pot up again and join in the fun!
Hi Jane,
DeleteLovely to hear from you. It is great to see other people's creations and to hear how well people are doing with their savings.
I am so sorry to hear you've had an injury..But glad you are on the mend and back to school on Monday. Join back in with our fun when you are ready.
