About Me

My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

WHAT IS SEALED POT SUNDAY?

PLEASE JOIN US FOR SEALED POT SUNDAY!!

Have you been emptying your purse each week into your pot?

Have you been putting in all your £2 coins or Loonies or Gold Coins in?

Have you 'saved and not spent'-not having that coffee has meant more for the pot?

Please pop along EVERY SUNDAY and share your week with the other GLOBAL SEALED POT CHALLENGERS. It's a chance to get to know and support each other! Maybe pick up an idea or two? And keep the momentum going-we have 34 more weeks to go until we open our pots together.

SEALED POT SUNDAY WEEK 11-MR SFT'S BEEN SPOILING ME!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to Kelley (Ohio, USA) and Moonwaves (Germany)-Who have now 'officially' joined our challenge :)

I'm feeling much better this week and am looking forward to a lovely half term week off school.

I'm being a bit cheeky this week as I've run out of volunteers for our SEALED POT GUEST SPOT:

So I've borrowed this wonderful design from KAY!

Kay is actually making a new sealed pot for the challenge but I love her previous little pig pot so I had to share it

MY SEALED POT WEEK

This week included a visit to London. We'd managed to acquire £10 tickets for:

We really enjoyed the performance. Simon Russell Beale was amazing, so funny! Our tickets were for a restricted view (a safety rail was in front of us) but it didn't spoil our enjoyment at all. Just £10 for such a wonderful night's entertainment was well worth it. Frugal fun at it's best. We ate cheaply at our favourite Stockpot restaurant, located just off Leicester Square.

Mr Sft was a real sweetie and treated me a couple of times.

1. Change from my purse-about £2.60

2. SAVE NOT SPEND-£1.50-MR SFT TREATED ME TO SOME FUDGE WHEN WE WENT TO THE THEATRE YESTERDAY EVENING.

3 SAVE NOT SPEND-£6.00-MR SFT TREATED ME (AGAIN) BY BUYING A GLASS OF DRY WHITE WINE FOR ME AT THE THEATRE (just standard size of glass-but these are London prices). This was a very special treat for me, I would normally take my own drinks with me. I did try to talk him out of it but he was determined!

4. It's a raid-from Mr Sft.

     .

what about you?

We're more than a fifth of the way through our year now. And I am so proud of how well we are all doing.

It's so lovely being on this challenge with you all.

AND A PLEA FROM ME!!!!!!!!!!

Please can I have some more volunteers for the SEALED POT GUEST SPOT?

Have a great week-Keep up the saving!

Don't forget to put a link if you are blogging about your sealed pot week-so we can share it with you.

  1. It's not got a lot this week, my poor hungry Sealed Pot, but it's had dribs and drabs, so it's been on a bit of a diet.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, your trip out sounds wonderful. Have a good half term week, with a bit of luck the sun might continue shining for a few days and we can all relax a little bit.

    1. Those dribs and drabs provide a nice little snack for the sealed pot!

I am feeling so much better.

Looking forward to a bit of r and r, and a nice bit of Spring sunshine would be just the ticket.

      We enjoyed our Theatre Trip.

I'm taking my mum to see Top Hat on Tuesday. More Frugal Theatre Tickets!

  2. My poor pot got fed with 2 x £2 coins and a handful of change totalling just under £5, the change from my shopping.
Nothing to my savings account as step daughter needed an injection of clothes for work, she is a trainee solicitor and has student loan and LPC loan to pay back, Monsoon did us proud with 4 dresses and a skirt for £145.
Next week it will be tops, cardigans and shoes. Thankfully most of this will be covered by a backdated pay rise and essential overtime to cover a colleagues sick time. Dad is footing the bill for car MOT and any other thing that is bound to arise.

    1. That's a good amount Pam!

You sound like you've had an expensive but necessary spending week-and yes, that is brilliant value for Monsoon, those clothes will last and last.

You step daughter is a lucky girl!

  3. So glad to hear that you're feeling much better. Your trip to the theatre sounds brilliant, and a great price too. Mr.Sft is such a sweetie treating you. Enjoy your week off. It seems that half-term was last week for many parts of the country, but we've got it this week too. Lucky really as it's Daniel's 18th on Tuesday and he wouldn't want to spend it in school.

    1. Hi Jo,

Feeling much better thanks and in a good place. I really enjoy the odd trip to the theatre-Mr Sft was lovely to treat to me, he even paid for my dinner-I forgot to write about that.

I feel I NEED this week off. It does seem to have been a long time coming-most schools had their's last week.

I bet you can't believe your little boy is going to be 18 on Tuesday. Doesn't time fly. I hope he has a wonderful birthday. What an exciting age.

  4. Hi, I've not been in touch the last couple of weeks but am still feeding the pot. Every Friday evening I empty my purse into my little pig. I also squirrel away some change from hubby when he's not looking!! I even picked up 20p off the floor when I was in town. I went into town and didn't have a coffee out so another £2.35, and I had pleasant surprise in the post a cheque for £41 (a refund on an insurance policy overpayment) which I wasn't expecting and which, once it's cleared the bank will go into my little piggy too. That Christmas trip to New York is getting nearer every day... Sadly however the losing weight challenge is not going to so well - but I'll get back to it in the next week or so...

    1. Hi KatieJane,

Good to hear you are still feeding the pot. Getting into a routine of emptying your purse is great.

And I'm impressed that your hubby is contributing too. And well done for spotting that 20p.

I love hearing about how people have saved and not spent-I'm going to focus on that next week for sure.

Isn't it lovely when you receive unexpected money..£41 is going to be a fantastic bonus for your little piggy.

Yes, Dec is creeping closer, so we all need to make sure we are doing all we can for this challenge.

I'm heading back into my healthier me challenge soon too. I couldn't face it when I was ill but now I'm recovered and feel like a new woman! :)

    Have a relaxing week!

  7. I added $14 this week. I found two toonies and made sure to put a tenner in it when I went to the bank to get cash. I am making a new one as have realized that the one i made is too small for the toonies once they build up. Once it is made I will send you a picture. Inexpensive theatre tickets are a great idea. I am sure you had just as good a time! Our big splurge this week was a fabulous greek dinner out last night for our once per month date night. The food was excellent(never been to the restaurant) and they even had a wizened little old man playing the loveliest Greek folk songs quietly in the background. It was really nice. Cheers!

I so envy people that find money! .

Thanks for agreeing to guest spot your new pot.

I like to look out for cheap theatre tickets. The train fare is often more than the tickets!

Your date night sounds good fun..I love greek music, I used to work in a Greek-Cypriot restaurant when I was a university student and I loved the traditional bands and dancing.

Just let me know your goal when you are ready.

Love the theatre and have started looking out for cheap tickets for Mr Sft and I or for my Mum and I . London is just 25 mins on the train.

Sounds like a wonderful outing! So happy that you enjoyed it :)
Good week for my pot this week, I had $70 leftover from a payment that I had received for the last few shares I sold and that went into the pot. It was more but I'd been having a little spend here and there! Oh and a few coins as well left from our grocery money

  11. I just love how you can go to the theatre in London so easily to see some wonderful shows. I have no doubt the two of you had a lovely time.

$27.00 this week from clothes sales, so that's good. None from my almost dry purse, that's good also as it means that I have not made a withdrawal from the ATM for almost a month! Big Yay!!

Enjoy your mid term break :)

We are so lucky to live so close to London. We enjoy the 'buzz' of the place and we are really enjoying seeing some great plays and shows.

You have done so well with your clothes sale. I'm going to really attack that over the Easter Holidays and try and raise some funds for the pot.

You have done really well with your savings/spendings this month.

  14. I had another bad week budget-wise, but am happy that I did still manage to put in my seven euro for week seven of the year, as well as the final few euro to catch up for the weeks I 'missed' (because I hadn't yet started) at the beginning of the year. Also threw in some coppers from my purse and a two euro coin I had in my coat pocket. I've also decided that since I'm most likely going to use the money to treat myself for my birthday, I'm going to use some of it at least to buy myself something fabulous on etsy. I've deliberately stayed away from etsy ever since I heard about it the first time a few years ago because getting out of debt was too important. All going well, I will finally make it to debt-free this summer and planning a purchse for sometime in December will give me a few months to start trawling all that lovely hand-made wonderfulness. :)

  15. Not a brilliant week here I am afraid. My grand plans to do special things while dad was in respite care for a few days failed. The poor dear fell and broke his arm and they do not want him back. So there have been a few bought cooked chickens etc.

But my pots are a little heavier. It is only two weeks until I bust oped the Queen Mary pot. So I am trying to scrounge every fiver I can. The Queen Mary tin has increased by 55g to 457g. This tin has $2 coin and $5 notes so it gains slower.

The Sydney tin gets coins that are $1 and less. It has increased to 1.779 kilos. That means an increase of 234 g.

Finding money has gone well as I found 5 cent in my hand bag and wondered how I had missed it in my daily hunts. One of the children left a dollar in their washing. It is mine now.

The clutter in the house is depressing me and it is reinforcing my try to not buy policy!

    Keep well everyone.

Good news about the weight of your pots. I'm really excited to hear how much you've got in the Queen Mary tin..not long now!

Isn't it incredible when you find money? I am always really careful emptying my purses and pockets so to find a surprise coin is a real event.

So nice that your children are contributing to the pots too :)

I'm trying to get rid of some of my clutter this week.

  17. My pot is hungry and giving me guilt-inducing glances . . . I had $10 in my purse earmarked to feed Mr. Potts, but after being on my feet for hours and doing the grocery shopping, I was tired and hungry (bad combination) and bought a magazine, a fancy coffee and two treats; I ate them at the store, while writing in my Dream/Affirmation/Plan Big book. So I owe Mr. Potts at least $10, next time I take cash out. I did find 43 cents in my purse, which went into the pot. I keep a very old and beaten up penny in the bottom of my purse for 'seed money' and two quarters in my jeans pocket for the carts at the grocery store. Two in case I have to use a cart to get the shopping home (then I lose the quarter).

Nice to see how well you are all doing. It's going to be fun opening the pots in December, isn't it?

And Mrs. SFT, love your 'cheap dates' with Mr. SFT! Did I mention when I signed up that back when I lived in Victoria, BC, the local weekly (Monday Magazine) had a 'Cheap Date Competition' for some time; people would write in with unique ideas on dates with a spouse or other special person, detailing how little they spent to have a great time together. I remember one good one; the man got up early, went out and bought the weekend paper and two coffees; he and his wife sat on the porch in the early sun, drinking coffee, sharing the paper and chatting. Loved it! ~ Linne

Ouch, shopping when tired and hungry! It never ends well. But good for you, paying Mr Potts back.

I love it when people find money, so congrats on that 43 cents. It all adds up.

I am really looking forward to December. We are all doing so well.

I love the idea of the 'Cheap Date Competition' -you just need imagination don't you. I love the example you give, getting up early to buy coffee and newspapers. That is real love.

  18. I was away this weekend and thought the pot would suffer but...I found 3x20p, 3x1p and 1x£1 coin. Also our train was late so we missed our connection and got a £5 cafe voucher from ScotRail - spent the voucher and put a fiver into the pot in its place. So not too bad.

And feel free to use my pot, just let me know what you need from me :)

    2. Yeah, the 3x20p were on the train toilet floor (I washed them after ppicking them up!), the 3x1p were sitting on a bandit and the £1 was on the ground.

It wasn't too bad - just an hour and a half so it could have been worse!

Sure, I'll do an update post soon and give you the link.
