About Me

My Photo
My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

READ A BOOK A MONTH CHALLENGE-THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND

MONTH 2-THE SUNDAY PHILOSOPHY CLUB BY ALEXANDER MCCALL SMITH

Started Sunday 17th February 2013. FINISHED 20th February 2013

I was quite excited about reading this book. It was entertaining and a very 'easy' read. I actually studied moral philosophy at university so I understood and enjoyed hearing about Isabel's  ethics' papers. Especially the moral injustice of people who are overweight..now that's 'food' for thought.

I would give the story 7.5 out of 10.

The Girl You Left Behind by Jo Jo Moyes

started Friday 22nd February 2013 - Book 4 of 12 (1 per month)

In 1916 French Artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his wife Sophie and goes to fight at the Front. When her town falls into German Hands, Edouard's portrait of Sophie draws the eye of the new Kommandant. And as his obsession deepens, she will risk everything-her family, reputation and life-in the hope of seeing Edouard again.

Nearly a century later, Sophie's portrait is given to Liv by her young husband shortly before is sudden death. Its beauty speaks of their short life together, but when the painting's dark and passion-torn history is revealed, the first spark of new love Liv has felt is threatened.

I was very lucky to have been 'lent' this book by a friend, which is why it's gone to the top of my pile. I have really enjoyed other books by the author Jo Jo Moyes.

I'm flying through this book, it's wonderful but I will reserve my final judgement until I've finished.

Sft xx

  1. You're doing well with your reading challenge, which is probably because you're reading good books which are hard to put down.

  2. I'm in a fun reading challenge called "Artful Readers Club". We read a book each month and then at the end of the month do a review AND make a piece of art inspired by the book. I'm still working on my Feb book, but here's my Jan book review for "The Skies of Pern".

  4. I wish I could find her books over here at the library or even cheap used. I confess to buying the Ship of Brides and loved it. I, too, look forward to your review.

    1. Yes, I loved The Ship of Brides too. That was the first book of Jo Jo Moyes I read, picked up accidentally at a Car Boot Sale-I just liked the sound of the story.
