WALK OF THE WEEK
WEEK 1-HAPPY NEW YEAR!-
IT'S WRITTEN IN THE SAND! see below

WHY NOT START OFF WITH 2 WALKS OF THE WEEK?
1. MOUSEHOLE, CORNWALL TOWARDS LOMORNA.
We took advantage of a dry spell of weather on our trip to take this walk. I was still feeling 'yucky' but was determined to get on with it. On the way back to Mousehole we had to climb up quite a bit which left me out of breathe. I was hoping the exertion was 'doing me good' rather than a result of feeling ill. The next day my upper leg muscles ached which was a good sign.
I'm not sure Mr Sft will like me posting this photo, I thought he looked good, he says he looked tired!
The map showing the way.
Mr Sft as we approached the uphill part of the walk
Rocky outcrops!
I love these trees, growing along the coastline.
2. A NEW YEAR'S DAY WALK ON WHITESANDS' BAY, CORNWALL
This was more of a stroll.......
I blogged about it because it was the first walk of a new year and a sign of a FITTER ME!
View over Whitesand's Bay-
Families and Dog Walkers galore!
Mr Sft and I (in shadow)
Can you see the 'Pill Boxes' - old World War 2 Defences at the top?
Mr Sft and I love rockpools, seaweed. All the treasure of the sea!
Wouldn't you love to wake up to this view each day?
I love the rocky outcrops and wild heather (red flowers) growing up the cliffs.
If you walk on you will get to another Youth Hostel! What a location.
Look closely to see-Longships Lighthouse at Land's End
Thank you for coming on my walk with me.
The aim of 'walk of the week' is to get fitter whilst sharing some of the beautiful scenery of the world!

Good on you for starting the new year the way you mean to go. I am not a huge fan of walking I only walk because it is necessary. For many years i have thought of running but have never actually got round to doing it. Cornwall sounds and looks like a beautiful place to visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks New World!
DeleteIt was great to start the New Year with a walk. I think I'm realising that fitness has got to be more encompassing in my life. If I make it separate-e.g. I'll go on 3 walks this week it won't work, I'll make an excuse. I need to be more energetic in what I do all day long. Build exercise into the ordinary.
I wish I could run, my knees are dodgy. You lucky thing being able to consider it.
Sft x
Went for a walk yesterday as well, not quite the same stunning views! But I'm doing the same, trying to walk more (usual 'resolution' - lose weight, get fitter!) - at least I started when I said I would :)
ReplyDeleteCheers Judy xx
Hi Judy,
DeleteWhat great news! I know that I need to walk more full stop. Some walks will be with great scenery, some won't. But it's about getting healthy.
I am delighted with your positive start to the new year. Keep it up!

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and that you've enjoyed your holiday. Loving the pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
DeleteLovely to hear from you! Yes, we are feeling better and today we crammed the day full of activity. We have loved our holiday, despite the bug.
Glad you enjoyed the photos.
Sft x
Thanks for the pics of your walk, it certainly is a beautiful area. Glad you are feeling better to enjoy it.
ReplyDeletePatricia
Thanks for your warm wishes Patricia. Yes it is a beautiful area, we love it!
DeleteSft x
Looks like you are having frugal outdoor fun with the walking in a love;y part of the country. (I haven't been there for many, many years.) Enjoy what's left of your holiday and have a good journey back home. :)
ReplyDeleteHoping to have lots of frugal outdoor fun this year! Enjoyable walks will be a huge part of that.
DeleteWe are back home now, and we had a great time overall.

I was hauling wood in minus 16C this morning...must have been doing some good,it made me cough!
ReplyDeleteI decided to walk back to the house the long way round so I felt quite virtuous!!
Jane x
Hi Jane,
DeleteI would call hauling wood frugal exercise but not frugal fun! Especially in that temperature!
You deserve a gold star!
Sft x
Lovely views on your walks, we used to holiday in Cornwall 2 or 3 weeks every year when the kids were young, mostly camping, lots of beautiful coastline to explore. It must be 10 years since I have been down there now and I get nostalgic for a trip down every time you post photos, maybe this year will see a return trip :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dreamer,
DeleteCornwall is perfect for family holidays. Wonderful camp sites!
Hope you get to return one day, although you have beautiful areas to explore, where you live now. So much to see....
Sft x
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Sft. My sister and visited Mousehole on my last visit to the UK (...1996?) and loved it. It was one of our day trips from our grandparents' house nr Helston. My grandpa taught me to love tidepools and to this day I can't get enough of them. When I was in Oregon in May '11, my friend and I stopped at a beautiful lighthouse. After a morning of rain, the sun shone for the entire hour we were there and I picked around at the pools for most of that time. How nice to be able to get away to these lovely places. I miss them, but soon!
ReplyDeleteHi NLA,
DeleteGlad you liked the photos!
I will be writing a post about Mousehole soon. So glad to hear you've been there! That's wonderful, and it's not a place to forget.
What a lovely memory with your grandpa. One to treasure
We call tidepools rock pools and Mr Sft and I actually went to the same beach in Devon as children and explored the same rock pools there. We may even have been there at the same time! What a coincidence!
You never grown out of loving them!
Your memory in Oregon sounds wonderful too. I love Lighthouses (another post) as well.
Sft x
It looks fantastic. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was Bonsaimum! We love it there.

What can be better than a couple of walks with those stunning views? I was saying only yesterday that we've been very lazy this Christmas and New year. We usually like to get out a fair bit, but the weather has put us off this year, it's been dreadful. I need to start making more of an effort, which I'm sure I will now that Mick's back to work, Daniel and Eleanor return to school on Monday and then everything will get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo,
DeleteWalking in such scenery is just heaven. Good to hear you'll be getting back out and about once the children return. Archie is in for a treat!
Sft x
Thank you for sharing your wonderful walk with us. What a beautiful way to start the year.
ReplyDeleteI have promised myself I will walk and so far have yet to do one! I wake late and it is too hot to consider a walk at all. If I wake at dawn I will in the morning. We have been showerless for three days and the plumber promises to come tomorrow.
Hi Suze,
DeleteIt was a beautiful way to start the year.
Sounds like you are really suffering with your water! I'm not sure I could walk in the heat if there wasn't the chance of a shower afterwards.
I do hope it gets sorted out quickly.
Sft x
So do I. It is just before two am. Dad had surgery this afternoon. He woke at midnight and he had a bleed through his dressings etc. He had no idea where he was etc due to his dementia. The clean up is done and there will be washing to hang in the morning. But life would have been a whole heap easier if I could have showered him.
DeleteHi Suze,
DeleteI'm shocked that you haven't been made a priority. BIGGEST HUGS TO YOU! I think you do a fantastic job.
I'm so looking forward to hearing about your treats for you!
Sft x
Beautiful cornish coastline - how wonderful it would be to walk there daily. Your pics are excellent - and Mt SFT looks ready to start the new year off in a healthy way...........and you close behind now you are hopefully over your illness dear.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could have done more walking in Devon but the rain and limited time didn't allow much - although we did get out early a couple of mornings and walk along the beach close to the apartment before the rains came in! We also did our usual up and down hills - there are 7 in Torquay just like Rome! - to get into and back from town on several occasions - good for the thigh muscles too!!!!
You would laugh seeing us hauling Tesco bags back up the hills so we at least had the breakfast basics and of course some wine!!!
Back here now and preparing for my big trip next week - oh my, this one has me somewhat nervous - so far away and remote. The seventh continent - very exciting - and heading there with fingers crossed and lots of warm clothing, ha! ha!
Happy New Year Julie dear - and here's to fabulous travels for us both!
Love, Mary
Hi Mary,
DeleteWe did love the beautiful coastline but in a limited way. When we've been to Cornwall before we walked more.
The photos were taken on a phone, as we forgot our camera! Some could have been better.
I visited Torquay with my family a few years ago. We were staying in Brixham and took a boat across. I remember those hills!
I saw you were off to Antarctica! Looking forward to hearing all about that adventure.
Sft x
We've done the Mousehole to Lamorna Cove walk, in a driving rain, and with me scared, make that terrified, of heights, this ended up not being one of my favorite walks. Loved your pix.
ReplyDeleteHi! Lovely to hear from you!
DeleteAnd lovely to hear that you've done that walk too! It was described as 'simple' in one guide book. HA, HA!
Isn't it wonderful to go on walks like that, beautiful views all around, a real adventure.
Glad you liked the photos. Taken on a phone, I'm afraid as we forgot our camera.
Sft x
Lovely, lovely photos, I feel I have almost been there with you I can almost smell the ozone!!
ReplyDeleteInstead we trudged around the perimeter of a HUGE muddy field with the dogs running ahead rooting for rabbits and examining smells left by other passing mutts, it cleared our heads and stretched our legs but I would have paid to do your walk instead!!
You really have started the new year as you mean to go on, well done.
Sue xx
Hi Sue,
DeleteGlad you like the photos. It smelt wonderful so close to the coast.
Great to hear that you've been dragging your feet through the mud. What a work out! I'll be back to walking along the country lanes until the weekend.
Need to kept up the momentum.
Sft x
I am envious. I am stuck with a treadmill this time of year due to cold weather -30F, ice and snow.
ReplyDeleteI am being faithful about filling my sealed pot and thinking even longer before buying anything.
Hi Marjorie,
DeleteIt is nice to be able to get out and about most of the year. British folk moan about the weather but really we are so lucky.
Sounds like you are doing really well with your sealed pot-you must love your boys!
Sft x
So lovely to view your pics. Since my chances of visiting The UK are slim to none, I welcome the opportunity to enjoy a vacation through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the photos Connie! It's nice to go on 'vacation' with others isn't it? I love seeing people's travels.
DeleteSft x
Love your pictures! I lived near the ocean from 1965-1997, mostly on Vancouver Island, BC. I miss it so much! I walked daily there, but have found it challenging here in Edmonton, AB. No lovely areas anywhere where we live. Last summer I began walking 2-3 times a week with a friend, who picked me up, then drove us to a mam-made lake in a newer subdivision; the walk around the laketakes us about 40 min. Once it was too dark and cold, we did walk at a mall several times. Not my favourite thing, mall-walking, but a good way to visit and get a little exercise. We are beginning again next week. I am going to commit to one walk a week, but plan to do more. Is it ok if I check in here on Sundays? It would be a great support. Thanks for sharing your goals; I, too, wantto be fitter and healthier this year. ~ Linne
ReplyDeleteHi Linne,
DeleteGlad you like the pictures! I bet you miss the ocean. Nothing like a walk on the beach!
I would really like to live close by one day..maybe for six months or so, just to have the experience.
Am looking forward to hearing about your walking progress. It would be great if we could support each other.
Sft x
Happy New Year. Thanks for all those lovely pics, your fortunate that the weather has been kind to you!
ReplyDeleteI think Mr SFT looks completely fine in that photo, not tired at all!
Sounds like you guys are getting fitter.
Have not been to Mousehole but i would like to start exploring Cornwall a bit more and visit places like st micheal's mount and Mousehole amongst others.xx
Hi Dannie,
DeleteThe weather was kind to us in Cornwall-not blue skies but dry.
I'll tell Mr Sft he looks fine in the photo.
We really want to get our fitness back this year.
I hope you get back to Cornwall again..there is so much to see....
