Hi Everyone!
It's time for another SEALED POT SUNDAY-in case the folks in the UK think I've gone mad, I post this early for the folks on the other side of the world. It's Sunday for them!
AND THANK YOU TO JANE
http://swiftsuresongbird.blogspot.co.uk/
http://swiftsuresongbird.blogspot.co.uk/
for our GUEST SEALED POT! AKA 'THE LOONEY BIN' for all of Jane's Loonies-$1 COINS!
(I have GUEST SEALED POTS now for Week 6 Priscilla and 7 Linne but would love more for the weeks after. Please let me know if you're happy to have your pot featured).
So how has the NEW YEAR treated your little SEALED POT?
Has it had a good feast? Or been on a New Year Diet?
Mine has been fed lots of New Year Treats:

1. FREE PARKING-SAVE NOT SPEND-We were due to start a walk and found the car parking would cost us £3.20! But then we thought outside the box and hunted for some free parking-which we found-so that's money for the pot.
2. FREE PARKING-SAVE NOT SPEND-We found more free parking along promenade at Penzance. A bit further to walk (a good thing) If we had used the car park it would have cost us £2.40.
3. STOCKING MONEY-SAVE NOT SPEND-We thought it would be fun to scour the Charity Shops in Penzance and see what we could buy using the 2 silver 50ps we each had in our Christmas Stockings. But we didn't find anything we wanted so we've decided to put them in the sealed pot instead.

4. USING VOUCHER INSTEAD OF CASH-£5 from Uncle Victor was spent in Boots for some Night Moisturiser So cream cost 20p instead! £5 has gone in the pot.

5. 1p FOUND in the Youth Hostel Members kitchen-I was very pleased as I'm not good at spotting money around. 1p and 5p also found around cottage, near Mr Sft's chair.
6. IT'S A RAID!-I raided Mr Sft's small change-1ps, 5ps and 10ps!

7. MONEY OFF!-My hairdresser was having a January Sale on all treatments so I ended up paying £39 for my colour and cut instead of the usual £45 so the £6 went in the sealed pot!
8. CHOCOLATE ABSTAINANCE-£2 PER WEEK IN THE POT FOR GIVING UP CHOCOLATE. Yeah!
8. CHOCOLATE ABSTAINANCE-£2 PER WEEK IN THE POT FOR GIVING UP CHOCOLATE. Yeah!
HAVE YOU MADE A SAVING IN THE SALE?
HAS THE MONEY GONE IN THE SEALED POT?
HOW HAVE YOU FED THE POT THIS WEEK?
SFT X

I pop a £1 coin in my sealed pot when I walk past it, so I'm hoping for a pile of coins when I open it!
ReplyDeleteOops, better put my Saturday £1 coin in before I forget!!
Hi Anne,
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea. I bet your Sealed pot is feeling really full and happy with how much you have fed it!
Don't forget that Saturday coin!
See you for SEALED POT SUNDAY WEEK 5!
Sft x
A grand sum of 89p in my pot this week - the odd change from my wages....everything else got banked. I'm having a no spend month and keeping my purse empty.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura!
DeleteI think next week will be diet time for my pot! Once I return to school I generally give the shops a wide berth!
It will be time to be very creative.
Are you following Carla's low spend challenge?
Sft x
Hi, yes. I'm doing a No Spend January - I'm not sure if I'll make it all month, but I'm going to try :)
DeletePS. My blog's not updating on your sidebar - my fault I changed my site :)
Is that No more spending? I thought you'd stopped it.
DeleteSft x
No lol the blog feed has changed. I'm sorry to cause you work, but to get updates you have to delete me from your blogroll and then re-add the new feed xx
DeleteI've sorted it out. Thanks
DeleteSft x
Thank you for thinking of us where it is already Sunday :). Last day of holidays for me today :( but something nice to look forward to, lunch with daughter who is home for the weekend, yay! And coffee with friends afterwards, also yay!
ReplyDeleteOn to the sealed pot - very poor this week I'm afraid. Usually I like to add the leftover shopping money but as I am trying to get through till payday without taking any additional funds out of the money put aside for Christmas break I have added the leftover grocery money to what is in my purse, so only about $7.50 added (coins from wallet). Still, it's better than nothing, and if I can get through with some money leftover that will go in too! But that will be reported next week
Cheers Judy xx
Hi Judy,
DeleteI have to think of all the little SEALED POT CHALLENGERS!
Sounds like you've had a nice holiday and enjoy lunch with your daughter.
There are going to be some lean weeks for the pot as well as some generous ones.
I think the idea is to put at least SOMETHING in!
And keep going.
Sft x
I was doing very well about money until I took mum to the fabric store. I found some fabric I had been wanting since June reduced from $22 AUS to $6 a metre. Better not go there. My week went as follows:-
ReplyDelete1. My sealed pots have been fed every time I have had change left at the end of the day. $2 coins in the Queen Mary tin and everything else in the Christmas tin.
2. School starts in a few weeks and the beginning of school is expensive. I have put aside $200 of the $250 needed for the three day music camp, next fortnight when I get money it will be another $200 as we have to pay levies and photography in the first three weeks.
3. Sticking to eat at home except for one meal.
4. Made sure I was out of the shopping centre before they would charge for parking.
5. Used gift cards for the groceries I could not get in Aldi.
6. Found a few little coins. Remembered that dad used to say zac for sixpence or five cents.
7. The cat carrier broke and I immediately used the refund to help buy the next one. That was the closest I came to a win etc.
Now for the final and definitely not recommended money saving strategy.....IT has been so hot and we were tired so everyone thought a treat meal at our local Chinese would be great. The food is freshly cooked with lots of vegetables etc. We had a simple but wonderful meal and a lovely chat with the owner. The next morning it dawned upon mum and me that we forgot to pay. As soon as the shop was opened the matter was rectified. I do not suggest you walk out the door without paying but even Dion, the owner, was laughing because she forgot too.
Best wishes for a successful week for us all.
Hi Suze,
DeleteI think we'll all be tempted from time to time! The fabric sounds lovely, especially if you've been wanting it for a while. Sounds like a good price too.
1. Emptying your purse every day sounds great for the old pots.
2. New school terms are always expensive. You sound very organised.
3. Not eating out is good! Sounds like you deserved that Chinese after the shower saga. Can't believe you forgot to pay!
4. Free Parking is a great way to save a little extra.
5. You must have saved a nice bit from using gift cards for food. Mr Sft has a gift voucher from M and S-a lovely shop, which has delicious food. We will be saving that for a treat.
6. I love finding little coins for the pot-every coin is a prisoner to the pot.
7. Good news on the refund! It didn't cost you a penny more!
Have a great sealed pot week SUZE!
Sft x
I cleaned out the interior of my car and found some coins, did not count them, all are now in the sealed pot. From my wallet two loonies in the sealed pot, $2.00 in $.25's in another contained, and ten pennies in my goldfish bowl, they get rolled up and put into my grandchildren's bank accounts.
ReplyDeleteOnly spent $29.00 for groceries this week, where I usually would have spent twice that much. As advised in my recent post, getting organized on dinner preparations and using what is in the freezer, fridge and pantry.
I have a spread sheet on my computer where I track all of my spending, all now up todate for year end. Would like to advised all of my utilities expenses are down from 2011, except for the electricity, that is up due to new time of day useage meters being installed. Pleased about that.
Patricia
Hi Patricia!
DeleteDoesn't that make cleaning worthwhile, when you 'recover' a few coins for the pot!
I think you must have quite a few loonies in your sealed pot now! Good to hear that your Grandchildren's goldfish bowl is being fed too.
I'm very impressed with your grocery spending this week.
And of course how organised you are. Spread sheets etc.. really do help. Great news about those utilities! We are waiting for the dreaded energy bill to arrive. Our Telephone/Internet has also risen by £14 per month so Mr Sft is trying to sort out a new deal for us. Our mortgage payments will soon be eaten up by high Pension contributions for me.
I've got back into keeping my accounts now after a few months of Mortgage Freedom Finances Abandonment! It does feel good.
Sft x
You sound so disciplined - a good example to us all :-)
ReplyDeleteMine hasn't had that much this week, I did drop in my £1 for managing to lose some weight this week and while I was there I popped in a shiny £2 coin that was in my purse, change from my doctors prescription.
Someone also gave me their car parking ticket when I pulled into our local little car park, it would have only cost me 50p to park so I left the coin that I had ready in my coat pocket and popped it straight into the Sealed pot when I got home, so it looks like you are training me pretty well.
It all adds up no matter how little we pop in each week.
You are more than welcome to lift a picture of my Sealed Pot from the Blog or I can email one to you if that would be easier.
Happy Sealed Pot Sunday to everyone.
Sue xx
Sue xx
Hi Sue,
DeleteThanks for offering your Sealed Pot for a Guest Picture. It will feature in Week 7! I'll look for the photo and let you know if I don't find it.
Great news about the £1 for a pound of weight. I just love that idea! And good news about the change from the prescription too. I bet your pot misses all those shiny £2 coins :(
AND FREE PARKING! Yeah! That's brilliant! I hadn't really thought of that either until someone mentioned it on here!
There will be good weeks for the pot and lean weeks too. I think it's just important to try and put something in the pot to keep the momentum going. I think the sealed pot will be on a diet this week as I'm back to school and probably won't go near many shops.
But I hope to put my £2 from not eating chocolate in and of course my first £1 for staying on my 'fitness' plan. That coin will be EXTRA SPECIAL!
Sft x
Sorry I mean Week 8! Getting myself mixed up. We are actually in week 5!
DeleteSft x
I wish that I could have found free parking yesterday when I went to the hospital to visit a friend.... $4.50 per 1/2 hr. Ouch! There is zero free parking around, no parking on streets, nor in the nearby park which is a non-pay park but is patrolled so hospital guests don't park there, nor in the high school lot across the street. And yesterday was so cold and windy and I was under dressed for a long walk so had to pay the price.
ReplyDeleteGreeting cards are offered to staff where I work for half the retail, so the card for my friend was $1.40 instead of $2.80. Otherwise no sweet deal savings, as not much venturing into the stores. So into the pot $1.40, plus $2.90 bottle deposit return. I pull liquor bottles out of my building's recycling bin and return them. Otherwise they become crushed glass. Not if I can help it!! $0.60 out of the wallet, and $0.19 found in the change cup at the self-serve check-out at the supermarket when I was updating pricing for my records. Total: $5.09, small but steady. :)
Hi Connie,
DeleteHospital parking is outrageous isn't it! And when you think of the reason why people go to hospitals it's even more outrageous (I'm sure we'd all agree). Poor you!
That cards sounds good value and your pot got a nice snack
I buy cards when I see them to try to save money but sometimes things come up don't they and they you have to buy expensive ones so you did really well.
Jane was talking about bottle return money for her pot. Is it as simple as it sounds, you return the bottle and get money back.
Good for you recycling other people's bottles when they can't be bothered or are too lazy! I confess to picking up aluminium cans when I see them on my walks. I give them to my parents who recycle them for supermarket loyalty points.
Another question-what is a change cup? Good to hear to found money there too.
And of course a wallet raid is always a winner.
I have to say, you must get the award for the most ingenious saving this week so far! AS YOU SAY SMALL BUT STEADY...WINS THE DAY!
Sft x
I too got eaten by the hospital parking monster. I had to go into the ER and needed change, so I had to break open the pot and fish out the change. BUT, I did transfer $6 from my chequing account to my savings account and will remove it when I next get to the bank.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I have difficulties resisting moving money out of my savings account every time I look at my bank info online, so I plan to walk over there first thing Monday morning. I asked Freddie (the gerbil) to nip me whenever I thought about spending the money in my savings, he took the sunflower seed I offered him as payment and gave me a look. I'm not sure if the look said "Sure thing, lady!" or "Tonight, we take over the world!"
Thank God (or deity or non-deity of your choice) that there's a movement to ban pay parking at hospitals since that money doesn't go back into the hospital's revenue.
Hi Lorna,
DeleteThose hospital parking monsters are terrible aren't they! Great to hear there is a movement to ban them! YEAH!
Don't worry about opening the pot, it sounds like you had to! Great news that you are putting the money back.
LOL about Freddie, good to hear he's on side and ready to keep you on the straight and narrow savings path. REMEMBER SAVE NOT SPEND!
Next week I want to hear about what has gone INTO your pot! :)
Sft x
I found £3.72 in the bottom of the laundry bin so that went straight in the pot. I mentioned at work a few days ago that I was going to order some videos and the next day I was given the complete set so £29 in the pot. I have not taken shopping money out as I still have money in my purse from before Christmas, so I am leaving that in the bank. I get my Christmas bonus from work next week, I will put some in the pot and pay the rest into my mortgage account.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam,
DeleteThat's a great find from the laundry bin!
What kind colleagues you must have to give you those videos. AND £29 that's an amazing amount saved! Wow!
And it's amazing that you continue to save your shopping money. How many weeks is that now? And how much money?
AND A CHRISTMAS BONUS!!!!!!!!!! I think you must be well on your way to Australia by now! Such determination.
Sft x
I have had 3 NSDs, so £3 in pot for that, saving £1/day MSE challenge so £6 so far for that, money received - wages and rent - £2 put in for that (bit more rent to come so that will be another £1), cleared out food and spending purses ready for this weeks budget (didn't count that - got to have some surprise element!) and finally stole hubby's lose change! Have a good week xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Fran,
DeleteI think it's a good idea to 'pay' your pot for Non Spend Days (NSDs). Especially if you're trying to have a low spend month.
Great news on the wages and rent too.
I think emptying purses, leads to a nice surprise on the 4th of Dec! Looking forward to that already!
And I love it that you 'raided' hubby's lose change.
I think you've had a great week.
Just think of that lovely holiday in Rotterdam that awaits you!
Sft x
I have put 2 £2 coins in pot which also is the same amount of NSD this month.I also found 2 5p's on the road and a £2 coin so a grand total of £6.10p.
ReplyDeleteHi Welsh Poppy,
DeleteCongrats on your Non-Spend Days! That's excellent!
I am MOST IMPRESSED with the money you have found, particularly that lovely shiny £2 coin. Wow!
You've had a great week 4!
Sft x
Gosh I've been really disorganised, still dithering about what sort of pot to use! my golden syrup tin might not be big enough (hope) I did save on parking over Christmas and packed lunches and have found loads of loose change around the house - just got to find a pot! Will do better!
ReplyDeleteHi Betty,
DeleteGood to hear from you!
I'm expecting a beautiful, artistic pot from someone such as you! Only joking.
Time for you to get organised before all those lovely parking and packed lunch savings disappear.
Sft x
Hi everyone, I started the sealed pot challenge just after Christmas. Mostly copper and some silver coins (50p). My pot is more a kind of plastic tub not very attractive but it does the job
ReplyDeleteHi Captain Shagrat!
DeleteLovely to hear from you. Now I must confess to you, that your name has disappeared from our list. My fault entirely and I know you signed up because Mr Sft and I were discussing your name-he knew all about its meaning. I will add you now and please let me know you goal so I can add that too.
Good to hear your update, like those big silver 50ps going in the pot. All sealed pots are things of beauty because as you say..they do the job.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sft x
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI'm not keeping to close an eye on what's going in but I am emptying my purse every day and putting the change in.
I've also been selling odd bits of furniture on eBay, un-finished projects mainly. If I'm paid in change then the £2 coins go in the pot as well as loose change. I then pay the whole amount from my current account off the debt I'm targeting at the moment. Seems to be working! For me, if I have it in my purse I'll spend it so the less I have available the better off I'll be!
Thanks again for doing this every week, helps to keep us on track!
:-)
Hi M&M,
DeleteYes, good not to look at what goes in too closely, otherwise there will be no surprise when we open them.
Sounds like you are doing REALLY well with your Ebaying too. Some for the pot too. Won't it be lovely to pay off that debt. So glad it's working.
It's a pleasure running this challenge and I am THRILLED when people leave a comment letting me know how they are doing.
Just love that!
So thank you too.
Sft x
Hi
ReplyDeleteI got a tax rebate of £36.87 - so into the pot it went. I empty my purse of any coins every Friday night so I don't spend them over the weekend. I didn't have coffee (£2.35 each cup) three times over the last week so that went into the pot too! It's a good start but will only get better.
Thanks for suggesting this and keeping us inspired to continue
KatieJane
Hi KatieJane,
DeleteWow! That's a great TAX REBATE amount for the pot! You must be thrilled. And also emptying your purse each week, will add to the element of surprise when we open them together.
And well done for resisting those coffees! When you think of those £2.35s each time, it really does add up-GREAT SAVING NOT SPENDING!
So glad you're enjoying the challenge. Thanks for sharing your week.
Sft x
Looking for free parking is a great way of saving, car parks can be so expensive, plus having to walk a little further will help with the getting fit too.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo,
DeleteIt's a win-win really isn't it!
Sft
I add all my coins left at the end of each week from my weekly budget. Yesterday I found 11 cents on the road and added that. I also found a loonie in the cupholder on our treadmill so added that. I plan to add any bills if they are leftover from the budget at the end of the month. A friend treated me for coffee this week so I added that $1.50.
ReplyDeleteHi Marjorie
DeleteGood news about those coins left over from the weekly budget going into that pot.
And also finding the 'roadkill' money :) It all helps!
And finding that loonie! In the cupholder (no more!)
Nice to be treated to coffee and save money. WIN-WIN!
I think I might have to have some kind of sealed pot award for the MOST CREATIVE way of acquiring money! You've had a very 'interesting' week.
Sft x
Only small change gone into my pot this week plus a £1 coin that someone had left in the self service machine at sainsbugs :)
ReplyDeleteI like the £1 for 1lb idea - I think I will start that one.
Hi Dreamer,
DeleteSmall change is good, keeps the momentum going!
And well done for rescuing that sad little £1 from the self service machine! It's now having lots of fun with its friends in your pot.
I love the £1 for 1lb idea from Sue! That really makes me want to lose some weight!
Sft x
I managed to feed the looney bin this week. A $1 coin from change at the hairdressers, then I bought Sydney's (one of the cats) insulin. It cost $47.01...I paid cash, they knocked off the penny....so I put the $3 change from $50 into the bin. Sydney is very pleased that she is helping!
ReplyDeleteJane x
Hi Jane,
DeleteThanks for letting me 'feature' the looney bin! It looks great.
So glad it's had some nice food this week-thank you hairdressers and thank you SYDNEY! I can see that this is a real family team effort.
Sft x
Not much into mine this week - just the coppers and 5p coins. I didn't buy anything at the carboot this morning, but having lost more weight, and being in danger of most of my underwear falling down, I thought my need was greater than the sealed pot this week. I managed to buy a bra and 4 pairs of knickers for £5.50 in the Asda sale - they should have cost £20 so a good saving was made. I've also cleared out my underwear drawer so decluttering was achieved too! I've sold a few things on ebay and other stuff is being watched so I should be able to transfer some money to my virtual sealed pot by the end of the week - yippee!
ReplyDeleteHi Scarlet,
DeleteWell all those coppers and 5ps add up!
I think it's quite understandable that you needed new underwear, under the circumstances. And a great saving made at ASDA!
Good luck with your ebay sales, sounds like the virtual sealed pot is in for a treat!
Sft x
I've combined a Weekly Savings Challenge and the Sealed Pot Challenge for something new and exciting for me. I'm so planning on a really nice getaway with Hubby!
ReplyDeletehttp://eboolifejourney.blogspot.ca/
Hi Auntie Eboo,
DeleteGreat to hear from you!
Well I'm intrigued to find out about your new and exciting challenge.
I'm off to have a look. I'm sure you and hubby are going to have a wonderful getaway!
Sft x
Hi SFT,
ReplyDeleteManaged to feed my hungry pot this week.
Survived a car accident, lost a memory card, everything else is good!
Managed to toss dollar coins and a $20 into my pot.
http://www.blog.pingerrain.com/2013/01/seal-pot-sunday-week-4.html
Cheers!
Hi Priscilla,
DeleteGreat news that you have fed the hungry pot. Lots of dollar coins and a nice $20 note.
TERRIBLE news about your car accident. I do hope you are ok?
Sorry about the memory card, that's annoying.
I'm off to read your blog!
Sft x
Interesting update:
DeleteMy memory card turn up!
My mum did a light sweeping in my room and found it!
Weird cause I had swept my room dozens of times and found nothing.
I am okie, no injuries from the accident.
I thought just saying it out will throw some fears away and gain some strength.
Thanks for your lovely comment!!
Oo! Oo! *waves hand* I want to be a guest pot pic! =D I have a blog post here on how I made my pot: http://heavymetalhomesteading.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/money-monday/ Heee...I'm a dork.
ReplyDeleteI finally made it to Sealed Pot Sunday! All of my days often run together, so it takes me a while to catch on. The biggest development in the pot here is that we've done a successful pot transplant from the bedroom to the living room, where we will see it more and therefore hopefully remember to put more in it. Otherwise, just the occasional coinage in the last week. Pot looks hungry---we'll have to do a better job feeding it this coming week. =)
Also, thank you for adding me to your blogroll! That was swell of you... =)
Hi Kriscinda!
DeleteOf course you can have a guest pot pic on SEALED POT SUNDAY. I will feature you pot in week 9!
I tried your link but it didn't work :(
Welcome to SEALED POT SUNDAY! So glad you could make it.
Great news about the POT RELOCATION! Having it in view makes all the difference! Hope you see it lots and lots in the living room.
Well done on the occasional coin! It all adds up.
Hoping for lots of great news next week.
Glad you're on my blogroll. I love your New Year goals.
Sft x
Eek...I don't think I know how to make a clickable link here. =P
DeleteOk after reading up on everyone else's great efforts to feed their sealed pots, I am motivated to do better this week! Other than that i have just been putting in my promised installment of €2 a week. Which wouldn't be bad after the end of 52 weeks on its own...
ReplyDeleteHi Gotthisfar!
DeleteGlad you feeling motivated! Aren't people doing well! I'm so impressed. I would just look around for opportunities to save not spend and keep doing what you are doing, which is great.
Sft x
I have two pots, one for any coins and the other for £2 coins. I have been saving £2 coins annually as my holiday spending money for several years now, so I thought I would continue even though I do not have a holiday planned for this year.
ReplyDeleteI empty my purse yesterday 90p into the 'any coin pot'. I was given a £2 coin this week in my shopping change, so that went straight into my £2 pot. Hubby and I took a flask of tea with us when we went for the day on Wednesday, so money saved by not buying refreshments out went into pot on our return home. We also saved 30p by using a different car park to our normal place when out for the day. All small amounts but it is fun to see how many different ways I can save money to put into my pots.
Hi Deborah,
DeleteLovely to hear from you.
Yes, it is fun to see the different ways you can save. I'm thinking about having a TOP TEN crazy ways to save money for your sealed pot.
Emptying purses is a good weekly method.
Save not spend on refreshments is also popular-and quite lucrative.
Free parking or in your case cheaper parking is a good one.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on next week.
AND HAVE YOU DECIDED ON YOUR SEALED POT GOAL SO I CAN ADD IT TO THE LIST?
Sft x
Hi SFT, Several years ago, my lovely daughter bought me a beautiful designer money purse. It had a lovely, pale striped lining. As I used to work in a Bank, many moons ago, I knew how filthy coins were; so I vowed never to let them linger in the beautiful money purse. Every day, religously, I put the coins in my purse into my son's old money box (Cadbury's Buttons, it's now 28 years old). When the box was full, I used to take it and get it counted. I put the money in the box onto an Asda Christmas Gift Card, as they give you £6 if you have £144 on your card by mid-November (ask them, they'll tell you when the date is). Now, as interest rates are rubbish at the moment, even though £6 doesn't sound a lot, it is actually 4% tax free - I'm not clever enough to work out the tax free bit. But it is -money for nothing- and paid for my Christmas grocery shopping last year (large family) and bought the grandchildren new pyjamas.
ReplyDeleteTook £22 in today and got it put straight onto my Gift Card, hope to do this a few times this year and then next Christmas should be quite painless.
Travel plans: one week at the end of March in self catering cottage in Bowness (friend's cottage but not mates rates!) just the two of us. One week in BIG house in Keswick which will house all 10 family members (6 adults, children aged 8,6, 2 & 1) and then hope to book a reasonably priced holiday (4/5 days) to Venice for the two of us again.
Janet
Hi Janet,
DeleteThank you for sharing that lovely story about the purse. I have heard about Asda's scheme. That is a good return on your money.
Your travel plans sound lovely, lovely of variety and I love the sound of Venice, lucky you, how romantic.
Thanks for stopping by.
Sft x
I haven't added much to my pot this week, just the pound I had in silver coins after needing to buy Stephanie new school boots- inconsiderately growing again! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
DeleteThe new term is always expensive! Good news about finding that £, it all adds up.
Sft x
The sealed pot has started slowly this year, something to do with the holidays, no-one being paid this year yet and the arrival home of Tom, he hasn't got a job yet, so is living "gratis" at the moment. To be fair he is going in to his old, old workplace to fix up a part-time job, this Thursday. It won't be long for the saving to be begin, the new oven and dishwasher before Christmas put a dent in the savings plan, but our goal this year is for money saved to go towards a planned holiday in Oz later in the year.
ReplyDeleteHi Auntie Bee,
DeleteOh, I am very excited about the planned holiday to Oz. Shall I change your sealed pot goal?
Sft x
I am being ambitious this year and have 2 pots, one for Oz and one for Christmas. It will be interesting were the bulk of the money goes, spending money for the holiday or Christmas food, which in 2012 was totally paid for by last years tin.
DeleteNot much spending at all this week but today I managed to find two toonies to add to the pot. This weekly Sunday roundup will remind me to do so!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheapchick!
DeleteGood news about the toonies!
Just curious what picture they have on them? Now I know loonies have a loon on them.
Sft x
The ones I have right now have a polar bear on some and the Queen on others. They tend to mix those up a bit and change the picture every so often.
DeleteAfraid not much has gone in this week. My computer broke last week (cost $100 to fix), I've lost my car keys (this will cost $10 or more) and my cellphone isn't accepting calls. They say things come in three...so here's to a more lucky week this week.
ReplyDeleteHi Matt,
DeleteSounds like an expensive week! Ouch! I hope nothing else happens.
Sft x
HELLO! HAPPY NEW YEAR my blogging buddy. I've just come back from holiday, hence my absence, I don't like to advertise the fact I'm heading off in advance, so thanks for checking in with me, I'm touched you had been thinking of me.
ReplyDeleteI've still got to catch up in all of your posts, but I can happily report that I have added around $70 to my pot so far this year as a result of some loose change and I've decided that half the proceeds of the clothes I have been selling at a second hand shop can go in each time I collect them, so far this is proving very lucrative.
I like your style - raiding Mr SFT's loose change!
Sx
Hi Sandra,
DeleteLovely to hear from you! Happy New Year. Hope you had a lovely (well deserved) holiday. Of course I notice when you're not 'around'.
Wow $70, I am SO impressed! That's a great idea about adding some of the proceeds from the clothes sale.
I think Mr Sft knows he's going to be raided each week. It's his contribution to the pot! I don't take big change.

I had a good week for saving money but it hasn't landed so vociferously in the pot. I found 30p cleaning out my car, won £5 of weightwatcher goodies at my meeting and used a £40 of Body Shop goodies for £20 voucher for Mum's birthday. The money I saved/earnt though I would never have spent in the first place and with it being my Birthday this week, the money went on a Birthday meal out instead this weekend. The meal was a delicious Morroccan, very reasonably priced, with belly dancing which we joined in with and generally had a whale of a time. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Penny Wise,
DeleteI hope you had a lovely birthday....mmmmm...Morroccan food! And Belly dancing too! How wonderful.
I think the money was well spent, even if it didn't go in the pot!

I have a picture of my savings pot on my blog which you are welcome to show, but it's not a 'made' one. It's my money box that I've had for years as an ornament on my sideboard. I'm just saving the loose change from my purse every time it gets a bit full. I am putting £2, 50p & 20p's in it, and other loose change,(1p's & 5p's) are getting thrown into a bulb vase. When I get a couple of pounds worth I'll change them up at the bank and put that into the money box too. I hadn't thought about putting unexpected windfall money in the pot, but I am trying to declutter, and expect to put some stuff on E-bay. If it sells I'll put half in the pot and half in my savings account. It should help boost the total a little.
ReplyDeleteIf the pottery pot should get filled up (yeah, right!) I have another plastic pot ready to decorate up and start. I'm trying to get my craft room sorted and make some greeting cards to sell. I never get many orders, a couple a year really, but again, I'll put any sales made into the pot.
Hi Bets,
DeleteReally pleased you popped over to let us know how you are getting on.
I think it's fantastic that all our sealed pots are different. I will certainly feature yours in a guest spot - for Week 10! Yours sounds lovely.
Great work at emptying your purse of all that loose change.
I love your ebay idea, that will certainly feed the pot very nicely.
I think it's great that you have a SPARE SEALED POT too! You never know how this year will go!
I think your cards are very pretty.

Hello Sft!
ReplyDeleteWe're a bit behind with the Sealed Pot Sunday... Busy, but still saving. Over Christmas, we received a cash gift off a lovely customer - who insisted on it, though he doesn't really have much to spare, but said he would be hurt if we didn't accept & doesn't know what he'd do without us! So that went in the pot! While away before Christmas, Hugo stayed with friends for a week & they refused the board money we sent him with because they're naughty, so that's gone in. Nearly cracked & went for a coffee yesterday while out, but Sime persuaded me not to, so another few quid in, then we've found £1 on the ground in a car park & 6p left on a shelf at a holiday let... I think that's it but have a feeling we've put more in. We haven't kept tabs on it all but think we've put around £75 in over the last 2/3 weeks, which we're really pleased with, especially as we've been away 3 times too!
Fortunately, none of us are into shopping, so there's never an interest to buy anything & we're happy with everything we've got, so that's good!
We are hoping to decide on a destination for our holiday with the kidlets very soon... Looks like there's a strong possibility it will be Scandinavia... We'll keep you posted!
Kay :)
Hi Kay,
DeleteGreat to hear from you!
Sounds like you've done so well with the sealed pot over the last couple of weeks-cash gift, board money, coffee abstinence (tops marks to Sime for dragging you away :) And if you're like me, then even that 6p gives you a thrill!
Scandinavia sounds a wonderful destination. Am looking forward to hearing more about that!
