About Me

My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

SEALED POT SUNDAY-WEEK 7-LUCKY CASH

Hi Everyone!

And it's time for another

SEALED POT SUNDAY!

This week's GUEST SEALED POT is from

challenger 64: Linne (EDMONTONALBERTA)

Here is my Sealed Pot!
In one picture, you can see the slot I made for $$ to go in, but not out (-;

The Statue of Liberty, designed and cast in France, stands for freedom from debt for me. The money I save will go to help pay off the debt I incurred when out of work for a year in 2008-2009.

Well this week I really didn't expect much to be put into my sealed pot.

But as it turns out I've received some 'lucky' cash.

1. LUCKY CASH-£15 CASH PRESENT-from Mr Sft's Auntie. We didn't see her over Christmas so this
was a lovely 'unexpected' surprise.

2. LUCKY CASH-£10 CASH PRESENT-Mr Sft put £10 of his Christmas present money into the pot.

£10 note

2. LUCKY CASH-£10 NOTE-extra payment from the school Christmas Holiday Club.

£10 note

3. £2 from CHOCOLATE ABSTAINANCE

4. EMPTIED £8 SPENDING MONEY OUT OF MY PURSE-Not needed to spend anything this week!

5 It's a raid!-MR SFT WAS RAIDED! -I only take the 10ps, 5ps and 1ps.

MY QUESTION THIS WEEK IS:

HAVE YOU RECEIVED 'UNEXPECTED' OR 'LUCKY' CASH?

How has your week been?

    1. Hi CC,

I really must get organised and start selling. That is such a good way to raise money for the sealed pot.

  2. Well done on your lucky cash. It's the best money. I am in the middle of decluttering and tidying my house(ongoing project). I was going through my handbags as i was giving some away and i found £2.01 in one of my clutch bag. I think i last used it in October on a night out. No guessing where the £2 coin went to. That makes a grand total of £4 this week. I haven't topped up my pot in a long time, needed the money for other things.

    1. Thanks New World! I was really surprised!

Good news about that 'found' money in your handbag! That £2 was just meant to go in your sealed pot. I think £4 is a good chunk of money and it's now safely stowed away in your pot for your dreams-Zimbabwe or Graduation meal.

  3. Hi SFT,

Ryan does his back stretches on our lounge rug and always seems to lose his change in doing so. I found £1.25 hidden in the deep pile last week and another £1 yesterday which I snaffled quickly for the pot. Ha ha.

  4. You've done very well with Lucky Cash this week. Good luck to Linne with her sealed pot, I hope she manages to pay off her debts. Sorry to hear about the weight loss challenge this week, it can be very dicouraging to see what you've lost go straight back on, but keep at it, it will be worth it in the end.

I REALLY hope Linne does well with her sealed pot too. She deserves it.

It may not be the right time of the year for weight loss but I'll keep going.

  5. I was a miserable failure this week. :( I ended up having to empty out my pot to pay for gas to get to a doctor's appointment. (Long drama there that can be summed up with my doctor is a pain in the ass.)

BUT! I start again with a new pot that's harder to get into .. a Tim Hortons' coffee can. And considering my Tim Hortons addiction, maybe it'll be a better motivator!

these things happen, and sometimes the pot funds can be a 'god send' in an emergency.

I hope your new tin is a real motivator for you. Good luck next week.

  6. If you have read my blog recently you will see that money is coming out of my bank account fast and furious for a reno job in my house. Hopefully, this will increase the value a bit when or if I sell in the future. To do this work I had to for go a Spring vacation, but saving for a short trip in my sealed pot and then possibly a vacation later in the year.
It is a good time for a good decluttering, some unwanted items from the recreation room will be put on internet sale sites, $'s will go in sealed pot. Not necessarily a surprise but found cash, in a sense, just the same.

I hope your reno job goes well. Sounds a great idea.

Good to hear you've thought about your travel plans too.

It is a good time for decluttering. I need to see some unwanted items, this will help the pot in weeks when we are not so lucky.

      Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. I sort of have a pot - it's an actual piggy bank, but I've been putting my loonies, twonies, $5's & $10's in there and I currently have $98! I've been selling stuff, and I'm still working on getting rid of stuff, but I'm not sure what I want to use the cash for. I'm thinking about an elliptical machine for my place, so I don't have to go out to the gym (which I haven't been to since early Dec anyway). There's a basic one floating around for about $150, but I'll see if she'll take less. It could also go to paying down some debt, but that's not much fun...I'll have to think on it a bit. Everyone has such great ideas, though! xx

I too need to sell stuff.

  11. Well done on the efforts everyone. I am glad some unexpected extras came your way. Very nice.

I have no idea how much went into the pots this week as I have managed a non spend day or two. To supplement the lack of coins I stuffed $5 in my Queen Mary tin as that trip is only weeks away now. My son gave me the $100 he owed me. So far I have stretched my going to the bank day and hopefully will not need to visit it this week. That money is squealing.

My father has now started taking the pots. It is due to his alzheimer's and his life long obsession with coins. So I gave him my reserve pot and hopefully that will help.

Then yesterday I took my youngest to a pool party. Not everything was free as it was the end of day camp, Since it was over 100 I bought some drinks etc. I hauled out my $20 note they had no change. I explained the money pot idea and the young man thought it "cool". Fortunately dad had some change on him and the situation was resolved.

    1. Hi Suze,

Lots of people have done so well. I was thrilled with our lucky cash.

Good to hear that the QM tin has benefitted from the non-spend days. I bet you are getting excited about the trip now.

Great news about your son repaying you. That must have helped you avoid the bank.

Sorry about your father taking the pots, but giving him the reserve pot hopefully will help you. Mr Sft said he was sad to hear this. He always takes a special interest in what you are up to.

Good to hear that other 'young' people like the idea of saving and that your dad had the change on him for your drinks. Over 100, phew!

    2. When dad was in his right mind he would have been horrified about anyone who did this. He started collecting coins when he had polio as a little boy. The American soldiers were very generous to the children and he lived in a suburb where there was a huge camp.

Actually I am not excited about the trip yet. Part of me wants it to be longer than Tuesday to Thursday but that is the way life is for us now. I am going to milk this experience for all it is worth.

      Stay warm.

I'm expecting some lean weeks ahead, I can't expect money to just appear from nowhere, but as long as SOMETHING goes in the pot each week, I'll be happy.

  18. Not a huge amount gone in the pot this week. I emptied my purse on Friday evening and put nearly £3 in in change and managed to slide in £1.50 form hubby's pile of change without him noticing. Due to the weather I haven't been anywhere really so no change or gains anywhere. I'm hoping for a better week next week or I'm not going to make it to New York! Oh, hang on I've just realised I haven't put in the £1 per 1lb for my weight loss - so there's another £4 to go in too! Hope you're having a good week too.

  19. Hi SFT, we had quite a good week with our pot ! My eldest missed his karate lesson because of the snow so that £5 went in, some change was found lurking in my daughters school bag so that was claimed and I inder spent on my food budget by £6 and on my personal allowance by £1.
AND we had £2 coins donated by my mum who thought it was a great idea and wanted to help !
The only bad side is that little Jo's legs collapsed ! Quite a sad moment - but i shall make her stronger next time !! So a replacement pot is being used until I make a new pig!!

  20. Good work! It's always lovely to receive extra cash. I do from time to time receive cash surprises which is fun as I then deliberate about what to do with it.......spend on something extra, spend on something necessary, spend on me or save. Mostly I save it for a rainy day. My pot has had no contributions over the last week as I've been away again and not bothered to do it, but I know there are some coins heading it's way soon :-0 Sx

  26. I'm late coming to the party this week, but that hasn't stopped me from partying. LOL!

The hungry pot was fed this week:

I worked 6 unscheduled hours this week so this pay was divided three ways; $25 to the December pot, $25 to the summer sealed pot (yes, I'm creating another pot), and $10 covers government contributions. As well, the wallet raid did net $2.47 in coins. Not enough bottles in the bin this week to make a special trip for redemption but I'm keeping my eyes open for more.

Good wishes to all savers this coming week! :)

    2. The summer pot will serve as a fun fund for things that pop up unexpectedly from June 1st to Sept 1st. I tend to be impulsive in the summertime when the weather is inviting me to be outdoors. For example, I've found myself in a spot where, unexpectedly I've had to buy a snack or a dinner out because I'm too far away to be home to prepare food. I could budget for it, but this year I've decided to go with the pot. :)
