About Me

My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

LOSE A POUND OF WEIGHT A WEEK

Hi Everyone!

So today marks the end of the week 1 of my

LOSE A POUND OF WEIGHT A WEEK challenge!

Before I returned to school I was able to walk for 30 minutes per day.
Since returning to school it has been difficult. I go in the darkness and I return in the darkness. I attempted one walk along our dark country lanes and fell over!

I have only eaten at mealtimes.

I have not eaten many deserts, only fruit.

So this morning I got on the dreaded scales:

And here is my new reading:

Height:  5 feet 7 inches

Weight: 13 stone 1 pounds.

So that's a 2 pound weight loss this week!

So the plan was:

Saturday 5th Jan - 13 stone   3  lbs

Saturday 12th Jan - Aim-13 stone   2  lbs/ Actual-13 stone 1lb!

£1 EARNED FOR THE SEALED POT! OR SHOULD IT BE £2?

Saturday 19th Jan - 13 stone   1  lbs

Saturday 26th Jan - 13 stone

Saturday 2nd Feb - 12 stone   13  lbs

Saturday 9th Feb - 12 stone   12  lbs

Saturday 16th Feb - 12 stone   11  lbs

Saturday 23rd Feb - 12 stone   10  lbs

Saturday 2nd March - 12 stone   9  lbs

Saturday 9th March - 12 stone   8  lbs

Saturday 16th March - 12 stone   7  lbs

Saturday 23rd  March - 12 stone   6  lbs

Saturday 30th March - 12 stone   5  lbs

Saturday 6th April - 12 stone 4 lbs

Saturday 13th April - 12 stone 3 lbs

Saturday 20th April - 12 stone 2 lbs

Saturday 27th April - 12 stone 1 lbs

Saturday 4th May - 12 stone

Saturday 11th May - 11 stone 13 lbs

Saturday 18th May - 11 stone 12 lbs

Saturday 25th May - 11 stone 11 lbs

Saturday 1st June - 11 stone 10 lbs

Saturday 8th June - 11 stone 9 lbs

Saturday 15th June - 11 stone 8 lbs

Saturday 22nd June - 11 stone 7 lbs

Saturday 29th June - 11 stone 6 lbs

Saturday 6th July - 11 stone 5 lbs

Saturday 13th July - 11 stone 4 lbs

Saturday 20th July - 11 stone 3 lbs-MY TARGET WEIGHT!

Next week:

Try to fit in a few evening walks.

No grazing.

No eating sugary foods.

And I'll be back next Saturday with my next weigh in.

Wish me luck!

How have you done this week?

I think by losing it slowly, I'm more likely to keep up new habits and be healthier.

  2. By some absolute fluke I have managed to lose weight, since I weighed myself last week I have lost 5 lbs. I have made changes but I am astounded. I have a lot more to loose than you but I console myself that we are the same height lol if not the same weight . well done to you too x

    1. That's fantastic! Congratulations.

      Those changes are working!

It's nice that we are the same height, it's like we are on this 'journey' together.

    2. My ideal weight would be around your start weight but in the short term I think I will set a goal of a stone at a time , which is more realistic for me as I have no willpower.

    3. Excellent plan! Now how are you going to visualise it. I find that really helps in any challenge.

I like to make a list, with dates, like above. Knowing I've got 1 pound to lose next week seems achievable.

Thinking about losing 2 stone would overwhelm me!

  3. I lost a pound as of last Monday. Kind of dreading this Monday as I haven't done so well. Hubby is not helping matters. :-((( I'm going to get very firm with him this next Monday after I weigh. I have a really hard time the first few weeks. I'm going to write out my diet strategy, post it on the fridge, and leave the room when he starts munching/baking.

I did get my little marble jar set up, with its one marble inside. I counted out the amount to my goal and those are stashed in my desk drawer.

    1. Hi Teri,

I think your idea of leaving the room when hubby starts munching will help. And being firm with him too.

I hope Monday's weigh in goes well.

I want to see those marbles in your jar!

  4. Well done you that's fantastica group of teachers from school have started doing a lunch time power walk. I join them on the 2 days my lunch break coincides with the walk. I'm lucky to work a stones throw from a peaceful beach so it makes a lively refreshing break in the day :-)

    1. Hi Sarah,

I did use to power walk around the block at school many years ago. Would love to do it again. Not a pretty route like yours.

How lovely that you have friends to go with and get onto the beach. You must feel invigorated.

  6. Well done. My weigh in day is tomorrow, I have a feeling not much weight has been lost this week. Why you ask..... I love liquorice allsorts and my family knows it, I received three bags for Christmas. Noted on the bag, 9 pieces equal 150 calories, I know, that's quite a lot, so have limited myself to that number, not once or twice but three times most days. Yesterday I hide them out of sight and decided to reward myself with four pieces, ONLY if the scales indicate weight loss. At this rate they will last me forever.
I did walk for an hour twice this week.

    1. Hi Patricia.

Good luck for your weigh in tomorrow.

I love liquorice allsorts too and I do understand your weakness. I admire that you can limit yourself each day, that wouldn't work with me.

I'm impressed with all your walking.

Looking forward to hearing about your weigh in.

  7. Congratulations! :) Remember to drink lots of water and to eat between meals, too (keeps the body furnace burning). A handful of almonds, veggies, fruit, a yogurt. Something like that, so you don't overeat at mealtimes. And some sort of protein for every meal helps stave off sugar cravings and build muscle. These are the things I'm learning are very, very important to help lose/maintain weight. Through the next week at least, I'm 'making do' with what I have in my cupboards and fridge before heading out for another grocery shop. I have so much food, it's quite ridiculous, so I've decided to eat what I have in January before adding more (and better) food which will hopefully start me on my healthier eating year...So excited to follow along with your goals!! You always manage to meet or exceed them, so it's incredibly inspiring. xx

    1. Hi NLA

Keeping hydrated is a real failure of mine and another area of my life I'd like to change.

I've recently found out about protein starving off sugar cravings. So I'm eating it in every meal now.

I too have food to use up, and I will, not throwing any away (Mr Sft will have to eat up sugary stuff like ice cream).

I hope I can achieve this goal, I've made it public but it's not certain. This is going to be a most challenging challenge!

  8. Well done.

I doubt I have done as well this week, and my Sealed Pot is grinning at me from the corner awaiting it's £2 fine on Monday morning.

Maybe if I starve myself tomorrow......or maybe that would be sooooo cruel to the Terrys Chocolate Orange that is beckoning me from the coffee table and is just desperate to be eaten....lol.

Well done again, you are so discipline.

Eating smaller portions will be my challenge after giving up grazing I think. One step at a time to change my approach to food and fitness.

If you think about it people may give up getting healthier because there is just too much to think about when they start-too many habits that they have been following for years.

I like that 'I'll just keep on going until my body feels right'.

    1. Hi Lesley

It's all about getting fitter and healthier, and losing weight as a result. Weighing myself was a shock but I'm taking responsibility for myself and it's up to me to do something about it.

  11. That's great news! Like you I have challenged my self to reducing the amount of space I take up! (I hate weighing myself) I'm trying to be good with my diet, but I find I am such an emotional eater it's not always easy. However this week I have started the couch to 5k challenge. By increasing my exercise (I have to squeeze it in very early morning before work) I'm hoping to dramatically increase my fitness and reduce my weight/size.

    1. Hi Nicola,

      Lovely to hear from you!

This challenge is less about losing weight-although that's what I'm using as a measurement, AND more about changing my mindset. Last November I was grazing on food when I wasn't hungry, often 2 chocolate bars a night and crisps! Now I have progressed to giving up chocolate and for 8 days I have not grazed.

It's about changing one thing at a time for 28 days until it becomes a habit and then moving onto the next part of my life I want to improve.

I need to sort out more walking, I'm not doing so well with that, cold weather makes me want to hibernate.

  15. Great work! That loss alone will spur you on for the coming week I'm sure.
I'm not actively trying to loose weight, but have lost some since last summer if my clothes fit is anything to go by and more and more I am buying a size 12, or medium rather than large, I even managed to fit a 'small' pair of trousers this summer!!!! I do eat less these days, just not as hungry as I used to be and over the last few years I have trained myself not to eat so much sweet food, nowadays I find a lot of the things I couldn't get enough of are too sweet and I prefer savoury over sweet. I am around 5'6" in height. Sx

    1. Hi Sandra,

Yes, as long as I keep losing weight I'll be spurred on.

Just make sure you are looking after yourself and having those little treats, I worry about you looking after everyone else.

Great news about retraining those taste buds. I think I'm making progress with that too.

I imagined you to be that height :)

  16. Hi
I'm already signed up for the sealed pot challenge. Can you sign me up for this one too please!! I need to lose lots, but 1 lb a week seems manageable and for every pound lost I'll put a £ in the pot too - win win all round! I got weighed this morning 13st 5lbs - scary as I'm only 4' 11"!!

And tell us how you got on next Saturday for weigh in day!

  17. Hi! I lost one pound, too! So am putting a dollar in the sealed pot. After reading all the comments, I decided I will trade a pound of fat for a dollar, two pounds for two dollars, and so on. I am also going to fine myself one dollar if I don't lose weight and one dollar more for every pound I gain. That should keep me on track!
You did very well, SFT! I think you could reward yourself with an extra pound in the pot, too!
I'm nearly back to normal after being sick and plan to do at least one walk this week.
I love how your challenges work together!!
Have a rewarding week, everyone. I like knowing we are all on the same journey.

Yes, seems like a few of us have embraced this 'journey'.
