About Me

My blog is about our life after MORTGAGE FREEDOM (achieved Oct 2012), saving hard for TRAVEL EXPERIENCES and EARLY RETIREMENT from my job as a teacher. I also have an ULTIMATE LIFE LIST (which works like a Bucket List)of dream travel destinations and experiences. Please leave a comment if you can. I love reading them! A little about me! I am so grateful for the life I’ve been given. I don’t need ‘things’ to be happy. I appreciate my family, friends and the value of experiences over the materialistic. By respecting the power of money and using it wisely we have had a beautiful, simple wedding and bought a tiny cottage with some land overlooking fields. We try to live simply and appreciate the beauty of the nature around us. But we have an adventurous side too. I met Mr SFT whilst travelling in Cambodia. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY!

Please pop along EVERY SUNDAY and share your week with the other GLOBAL SEALED POT CHALLENGERS. It's a chance to get to know and support each other! Maybe pick up an idea or two? And keep the momentum going-we have 20 more weeks to go until we open our pots together.

LOSE A POUND OF WEIGHT A WEEK

LOSE A POUND OF WEIGHT A WEEK

Hi Everyone!

Today marks the beginning of my

LOSE A POUND OF WEIGHT A WEEK challenge!

(I was waiting for the 'special' batteries for our scales)

So this morning I got on the dreaded scales:

The reading was not a pretty site:

Height:  5 feet 7 inches

Weight: 13 stone 3 pounds.

This is the heaviest I've ever been!

And I'm not proud about that. I think it's been happy living with Mr Sft that has helped put on those pounds and now I want to get rid of them!

Hence the Lose a Pound of Weight a Week Challenge!

So here's the plan-what I want to lose and reach:

Saturday 5th Jan - 13 stone   3  lbs

Saturday 12th Jan - 13 stone   2  lbs

Saturday 19th Jan - 13 stone   1  lbs

Saturday 26th Jan - 13 stone

Saturday 9th March - 12 stone   8  lbs

Saturday 16th March - 12 stone   7  lbs

Saturday 23rd  March - 12 stone   6  lbs

Saturday 30th March - 12 stone   5  lbs

Saturday 6th April - 12 stone 4 lbs

Saturday 13th April - 12 stone 3 lbs

Saturday 20th April - 12 stone 2 lbs

Saturday 27th April - 12 stone 1 lbs

Saturday 4th May - 12 stone

Saturday 11th May - 11 stone 13 lbs

Saturday 18th May - 11 stone 12 lbs

Saturday 25th May - 11 stone 11 lbs

Saturday 1st June - 11 stone 10 lbs

Saturday 8th June - 11 stone 9 lbs

Saturday 15th June - 11 stone 8 lbs

Saturday 22nd June - 11 stone 7 lbs

Saturday 29th June - 11 stone 6 lbs

Saturday 6th July - 11 stone 5 lbs

Saturday 13th July - 11 stone 4 lbs

Saturday 20th July - 11 stone 3 lbs-MY TARGET WEIGHT!

So I've upped my walking.
I'm going for a brisk 30 minute walk each day.
And a longer walk at the weekend.

And I'm only going to eat at meal times (no grazing or treats allowed).

So I'll be back next Saturday with my next weigh in.

Wish me luck!

I believe the following folk are trying to lose a Ib a week too!

Linne @ http://arandomharvest.wordpress.com/

Sue @ http://ournewlifeinthecountry.blogspot.co.uk/p/52lbs-down-in-2013.html

What about you?

Are you trying to 'downsize' this year?

  1. Yes, I do need to downsize, my post of today will confirm that.
Hopefully a bit of organization and the additional walking that I am doing will help me loose some of my extra baggage. My weigh in day is tomorrow.
I was cleaning out my car and found some coins, so reporting early, $3.54 in my sealed pot.

    1. Hi Miss Piggy Bank

I think publishing the statistics will motivate me and stop me straying!

As long as I'm roughly where I am meant to be, I'll be happy.

  4. Good luck sft. Slow and steady wins the race. It's now 3 years since I embarked on my final weight loss journey. I've kept the weight off for 2 years now and have even lost a bit more. J has also kept his weight off and KL has now lost over 2 stones. As a family we are now around 7.5 stones lighter than we were at the start of 2010.

    1. Hi Scarlet,

I like that 'slow and steady wins the race'.

That's an amazing amount of weight lost! Your family must feel fantastic!

  5. Good Luck, I am back on the Slimming World Wagon. I am walking 40 minutes a day to and from work twice and so far is seems to be going well. I am hoping for slightly more than a pound a week loss.

    1. Hi Justine,

I would like to up our walking.

Looking for extra opportunities next week.

Will blog about them, when/if they occur.

I've got wise to the fact that school throws all routines out of the window, apart from school routines themselves.

And going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark doesn't help.

  6. Good luck with your challenge SFT, I am aiming for health and fitness rather than weight loss but that is coming along nicely as a side effect.I started last year and have lost a significant amount but really need to lose a lot more.Slow and steady for me but I will check in with you as you work on your challenge.

    1. Hi Dreamer,

      Yes, slow and steady.

Yes, it is about health, fitness and weight loss for me too! I think I needed to admit my weight gain to do something positive about it.

Just had a letter from the Doctors, offering a health check, think I will do it because I need to know what I have to address health wise.

I would like a complete life style change but school stops that for me so I'll do the best I can until I take early retirement :)

I am so pleased for you Dreamer, I remember all those years ago..and how you made your future dreams become a reality and how you really DO LIVE THE DREAM!

    1. Hi Plumes,

Lovely to hear from you. I know you're a vegan and I'd love some advice on meat free healthy food.

Good luck for losing your last stone! You've done brilliantly.

  8. Good luck with your challenge! It's really good to put it out there as you have done, but you are braver than me! I do have a goal to lose 1 to 2 kilos per month but for this month I am not focussing too much on it as we are still eating treats from Christmas, although I think they are almost done. I have been walking each day since January 1 as it is one of my goals to walk each day, not huge distances as yet but better to start small and work my way up.

    1. Hi Judy,

I think I had to put it out there, the trouble was we don't have any mirrors in our cottage-only hand mirrors. When I saw myself in the mirror at the Youth Hostel I was really amazed how much weight I'd put on. I didn't get upset about it, I just thought, 'right I'm going to do something about it!'.

I'm not sure how kilos relate to pounds, so not sure how much you have to lose.

My aim is to exercise more and not graze, just eat at meal times and hope that works it's magic.

Good luck with your walking, that sounds great.

  10. Oh yes... And I've got a long way to go. I started last week with my 'diet' - reduce refined carbs heavily, exercise, and portion control. I weigh in on Mondays but took a sneak peek yesterday. I liked what I saw! I am putting a marble in a jar for each pound lost... and will take back out if I regain anything.

Sounds like you've made a brilliant start to your 'diet' and exercise plan. I love the marble idea...that will give you a nice visual reminder.

  11. We really CAN do this, thank you for spurring me on. I hope to lose 26lbs and get to just under 11st. We are in a very similar starting place, you are just an inch taller than me and only a smidge heavier.

I really do blame the men, I was 10st 7lbs when I met Lovely Hubby eight years ago!!

I want to skip snacking, stick to eating good healthy meals three times a day, if and only if, I'm hungry and have sightly smaller portion sizes. I am ruthlessly stopping eating as soon as I feel comfortably full from now on.

    1. Hi Sue,

Yes WE REALLY CAN DO THIS! I'll be thinking of you and the other buddies when I'm out on my walks and I'll be sharing my news-good or bad each Saturday.

Yes, the men are to blame. I was 11 stone when I met Mr Sft!

Your plan is so sensible. I won't be snacking but I will have an afternoon 'treat'. Something healthy to keep me going when my blood sugar levels dip and I still need to do duties or go to meetings at school. Also it will mean I avoid the biscuit tin.

Stopping eating when I'm hungry, good plan. More leftovers or given to Mr Sft.

Smaller portion sizes for evening meals..absolutely.

      WE CAN DO THIS!

  12. Yep, I have just started this week too! So far it's been porridge for breakfast, which is awesome, with lots of veggies in other meals.

Hoping that I won't hit a snack wall when I go back to Uni next week! I tend to hit an energy dip around 3pm!

    1. Hi Bryallen,

Porridge is great for breakfast and good for the budget too. Sounds like you've made an excellent start to the new year.

I have an energy dip at 3pm too, so I'm taking houmous with carrot/cucumber sticks to eat. Hoping that will keep me going until dinner time.

  14. Good luck! I'm aiming for 2lbs a month in 2013 and will be following your progress and spurring you on. We CAN do this!

We need to try and imagine weight as mortgage debt...that'll soon get rid of it!

    1. Hi Laura!

Good luck with your 2 lbs a month! Is that going to be matched with money?

Sue at Our New Life in the Country-had this great idea £1 for a lb for our sealed pots!

Yes, you are quite right about imagining it as debt! I think that's why I listed it week by week. That's what I did for the mortgage and it seemed to work. One of my dear friends is visiting from Australia in August and it would be so nice to see her looking like my old self!

As you say WE CAN DO THIS! I am going to keep saying that to myself, whether I'm on a walk or planning meals or avoiding grazing!

  15. Hi there I have managed to lose 2lbs this week down to just under the dreaded 13 stone ! I am trying the two day a week fast diet and being careful the rest of the week - slipped up on Sunday though .
Sealed pot was donated all money which would normally been spent on choc bars - at least £2 a week plus my £2 for lbs lost . Found I had money left over in my purse at the end of the week so that went in too . I am just keeping away from charity shops and car boots at the moment as I don't NEED anything .
Saving up for a trip to Tangier .
Thanks for all your great tips
